Developmental Editing

Developmental editing addresses the high-level elements of a story – such as plot, pacing, world-building, character development – through in-line comments and a chapter-by-chapter editorial letter that consolidates these scene-level analyses.​

• In-line developmental comments that may include questions, feedback, and suggestions.

• A chapter-by-chapter editorial consolidation explaining key suggestions and offering guidance for tackling revisions.

• One to two revision passes and follow-up sessions after the developmental suggestions have been implemented.

Line Editing (incl. basic proofread)

$0.008-$0.011 per word

Line editing is the stylistic part of book editing, where writing will be evaluated sentence-by-sentence. Things like word choice, sentence structure, metaphor usage, tone consistency, and redundancies will be looked out for. The extent of sentence rewrites will be discussed on a project-by-project basis.

• In-line edit suggestions (can be approved or rejected).

• One pass of proofreading to check for any glaring grammatical errors and typos.

• One revision pass and follow-up session after the line edit suggestions have been implemented.

Copy Editing & Proofreading

$0.005-$0.006 per word

Copy editing is the technical part of book editing, where all the grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax errors are weaved out. It also includes suggestions to improve the flow, clarity, and accuracy of the writing.

Proofreading is completed after all stages of editing, and is where typographical, formatting, and other minor errors will be corrected.

What You’ll Get:

• In-line edit suggestions (can be approved or rejected).

• A style sheet just for your manuscript, cataloguing character details, world rules, a glossary, and grammatical/style choices.

• One round of proofreading after the first round of copy edits have been approved by the author.

• One follow-up session to discuss any uncertainties post-delivery.
